DETENTION OFFICER POSITION

Spectrum Security Services, Inc. would like to encourage you apply for the Detention Officer (DO) position. The DO provides security and support services for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The work involves guarding and caring for alien detainees that are under the jurisdiction of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Since this is a position of public trust, ICE requires a thorough background check. The background clearance process may take between 2 to 4 months to complete.

REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for this position, we prefer that you have prior experience guarding prisoners and detainees as a correctional officer, jailer, or detention officer. If you do not have such experience, you must have one of the following::

  1. Six months of experience as a security officer engaged in functions related to detaining civil or administrative detainees; OR
  2. A two-year college degree or related professional training, and six months of experience as a security officer preferably engaged in functions related to guarding prisoners/detainees; OR
  3. A minimum of one-year experience as a law enforcement officer or military police

    AND
  1. Be willing to work on-call, accept sporadic assignments, and take challenging duties in environments such as, hospitals, psychiatric institutions, hotels, and federal facilities,
  2. Pass a medical examination, and be free of serious physical ailments such as epilepsy, heart, lung, and skeletal defects, and mental problems,
  3. Have no criminal record (NCIC records will be checked by DHS),
  4. Have no illegal substance use history,
  5. Have a good driving record without serious infractions (bring your DMV record when you are invited to the interview),
  6. Have a good credit history (If you are invited to the interview, please bring a recent copy of your credit report with you),
  7. Be at least 21 years of age,
  8. Be registered through BSIS as a Security Guard,
  9. Possess current valid certifications for training in First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogens.

Department of Homeland Security Background Check:

It is critical that the applicant passes the DHS background investigation prior to employment, which might itself take considerable time. This position will require a clean criminal record and acceptable credit history. If you have any felonies, or misdemeanors associated with violence, you are disqualified. If you have bad credit, or financial judgments filed against you by creditors (over $5,000.00), you may not want to apply, as it is highly unlikely that you will be granted a security clearance by DHS to work as a DO. If you have filed for bankruptcy within the last seven (7) years, and if it has not been discharged, you are disqualified. Attempts to conceal any past and present financial problems or an arrest record (resulting in a minor misdemeanor record) will be futile as they will be discovered during the extensive background investigation process. Disclosing all information openly, including all arrests and judgments sometimes will result in a clearance, but attempting to hide them will result in a definitive rejection. You must disclose any criminal charges and explain in detail on the forms and worksheets provided.
